CNN: Taliban and Al Qaeda Split

CNN's sources say that the Taliban is breaking with Al Qaeda (in Afghanistan) and that long-time nemesis Saudi Arabia is overseeing the talks.
The talks — the first of their kind aimed at resolving the lengthy conflict in Afghanistan — mark a significant move by the Saudi leadership to take a direct role in Afghanistan, hosting delegates who have until recently been their enemies.
Time to break out Ahmed Rashid's Taliban. He spent 21 years writing it — the length of his years covering Afghanistan as a reporter. I wonder what Rashid makes of this?
