Two deranged "Asian" men, two rolls of duct tape, two planeloads of John Doe passengers, two arrests in 36 hours. What's going on aboard Frontier Airlines? Here are the two flights — Flight 561 on Thursday night and Flight 514 on Saturday morning — both of which involved vigilant passengers that helped to avert disaster.

Frontier Airlines Flight 561: On Thursday at 8:00 p.m — and according to a police report — Jeffrey K. Chang of Santa Clara, California was arrested in Indianapolis after he became a danger to others mid-flight; he punched another passenger in the face. Passengers helped crew restrain the deranged man. From IndyStar.com.

Passengers reportedly had to hold down Chang, whose hands and feet were taped together to control him. Frontier Flight 561 landed in Indianapolis about 8 p.m. Thursday after the fight, the report said. Chang reportedly was upset that there was another passenger in the seat next to him and punched that passenger in the face, requiring treatment when the plane landed.

Frontier Airlines Flight 514: On Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. — and according to Frontier Airlines Spokesman Joe Hodas — a yet unnamed man was arrested At La Guardia Airport in New York after he tried to open the aircraft door mid-flight.

In an interview with New York Daily News, passenger Bobby Vigil, who was seated next to the deranged man, described him as "Asian looking and about twenty."

Vigil said his rowmate left his seat to go to the bathroom in the front of the plane and briefly tried to open the cockpit door. The man, whom he described as Asian and about 20, then returned to his seat, only to get up 15 seconds later, go to the back of the plane and attempt to open the cabin door.

"I heard the flight attendant say, 'Help me!'" Vigil said. A struggle broke out, and Vigil and two other male passengers rushed over to help the attendant restrain the passenger.

"We taped him up in an 'X' pattern," said Vigil. "He wouldn't stay still or cooperate."
