John Smeaton is the heroic, Glasgow Airport baggage handler who wrested terrorist Balil Abdulla to the ground. The BBC reports that Smeaton got involved in the situation after he watched two terrorists exit their burning jeep and begin attacking a police man. The London Times is hailing Smeaton the "airport's answer to Jack Bauer, the all-action hero of American TV drama 24," and provided details as to how, and why, Smeaton took action:

Spotting a terrorist suspect grappling with police, Mr Smeaton thought: “You’re nae hitting the Polis mate, there’s nae chance.” He told interviewers: "There was a guy in flames. You just don't expect to see that on a day at work, especially at Glasgow Airport. So I ran straight towards the guy, we're all trying to get a kick-in at him, take a boot to subdue the guy."

In an interview available on You Tube, Smeaton says of the terrorists:

"they can try and come to Britain and disrupt us any way they want, but the British people have been under a lot more things than this, and have stood proud."

Earlier in the week, the website johnsmeaton.com was set up to pay tribute to Smeaton. The site received 1/2 million hits the first day.
