Pair Posing as Cops Attempt to Board Plane with Gun
By Annie Jacobsen in category Airport Security & Screening
A man and a woman claiming to be law enforcement officers attempted to board a flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii on Saturday; the woman was armed. The pair of phony cops claimed they were escorting a "prisoner," to Hawaii for a court hearing. Airport police spokesperson Belinda Nettles told the Associated Press that Los Angeles airport police caught the two impostors when a database check found that neither the man nor the woman were police officers.
"The couple, who were wearing plainclothes, claimed to be law enforcement officers. The woman said she was carrying a firearm, and both claimed they had written documents indicating they were authorized to carry firearms. Airport police ran a check and found that neither was a police officer, and the woman did not have a permit to carry a gun"
The man and the woman were arrested for impersonating police officers. The fake prisoner was taken into custody. Names have not yet been released.
