British Metropolitan Police have announced the arrest of another suspect in the August 2006 London planes plot — one where as many as ten US-bound planes were to be blown up by bombs built in the aircraft lavatories. The suspect was identified as a 27-year old man and was arrested in Wathamstow, England. From The Guardian:

“At around 6am police counter-terrorism officers raided a house and arrested the man, who remains in custody. Police would not confirm if the house was the man’s home but said it was a residential address.

A source close to the man’s family said the 27-year-old was known to be friends with some of those who were charged, and had visited them in prison several times.”

Twenty-four people allegedly involved in the planes plot were arrested last August. Fourteen remain in custody. CNN is reporting that British intelligence officials now confirm that the plot was foiled after “a member of the country’s Muslim community contacted authorities after noticing an acquaintance acting suspiciously.” This led to the placement of an undercover agent inside the terror cell.
