9/11 Lawsuit, SSI and CYA
By Annie Jacobsen in category Government Secrecy
For those unfamiliar with what SSI stands for, it’s a Federal Government acronym for Sensitive Security Information. You will be hearing a lot about SSI at TheAviationNation.com; many of our aviation security colleagues believe that SSI — and its unbridled use by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials — more aptly stands for CYA.
CYA, for those unfamiliar, is an acronym for Cover Your A - -. Among those notably concerned about the SSI=CYA equation is Brian F. Sullivan, former FAA Special Agent. Sullivan is trained and experienced in the Top-Secret classification process. He sees SSI — its unmonitored and over use by DHS — as a threat to government transparency and accountability.
In an email from Sullivan this morning:
Here is the link to the December 11th hearing transcript of the 9/11 lawsuit before Judge Hellerstein. I am forwarding it to keep parties informed and to encourage media coverage of this most important legal proceeding. Perhaps, as SSI information is revealed, we’ll finally move towards achieving some of the accountability lacking in the 9/11 Commission Report.
